had a problem with our electric boiler and the hot water, and we had to wait five weeks for
the repair.
The area where we live can get very noisy because there are students here too but I find that
I fit in because there are many people from different backgrounds living here so we are
together in our "otherness".
There is still a long way to go before Belfast is truly diverse though. I think Belfast is a
wonderful city, and it's actually, you know, a good place to live and work in many
respects...but it doesn't have the level of diversity that I like. I'd love one day, if I have
children, to be in an environment that is truly diverse.
Where there are people that also look like them, you know? So, they could go to Queen's
University and see Black professors or go to different places of work and see Black people at
the very highest levels in those places. When we can see people like us in those places, it is
easier for us to imagine that anything is possible. That we too, can achieve great things. My
aim is no longer to simply survive, but to thrive.
