'Don't Box Me In' - Disability, Identity and Transitions to Young Adult
Life. Dr Berni Kelly QUB (2012-2013)
The Follow up study sought to investigate the transitions of 10 young
people with disabilities from child to adult life and explore their life
experiences.
These were 20-29 yr. olds.
Findings:
•some positive developments in relation to increased day opportunities and
innovative transition projects.
•limited investment and short-term funding arrangements for services and
staff
•inadequate cross-sector collaboration has hindered the development of
transitional supports and day time opportunities.
•The young adults wanted to fully participate in person-centred transition
plans and decisions affecting their post-school lives and reach their full
potential in young adult life.
