Dr Paula McFadden was an invited Keynote to the University of Lapland in November 2022, to a
symposium organised by the PANDA, 'Pandemic Social Work' academic group, led by Professor Timo
Harrikari. Dr McFadden was one of four international invited Keynotes concerning social work during
COVID-19. This hybrid symposium was attended by academics and students from the University of
Lapland and attended online by representatives of multiple international countries. A practitioner from
Lapland, a child welfare team leader, Henri Izadi, provided commentary following Dr McFadden's
presentation on 'U.K Social worker wellbeing and coping during COVID-19: Giving voice to the
workforce in making recommendations for recovery'. Mr Izadi commented 'this is excellent research
which resonates with our experience and challenges in the workforce in Lapland, and it is important
that the perspectives of workers is given this platform to inform changes needed for sustainability and
retention in child welfare'.
Dr McFadden is one of five editors on a forthcoming book on 'Social Work during COVID-19: Glocal
Perspectives and Implications for the future of social work' which will be launched at the European
Conference for Social Work Research in Milan in April 2023.
