research finds that there are significant barriers to this such as lack of
resources, finances, increased workload or lack of knowledge of what can be
provided.
Conclusions:
This narrative review highlights the need for further research in order to build the
evidence base and develop a structured approach to supporting carers within
primary care services. Research suggests working in partnership with other
health and social care services and the wider community to put systems and
supports in place to cater for carers needs at all stages of their caring journeys.
The research also indicates that identification of carers by primary care teams
and self-identification by carers is limited, therefore primary care services should
look at ways to encourage carers to identify in order to prioritise their needs.
