Co3 Leadership Awards 2022
Celebrations took place in the Europa Hotel on Thursday 24th
March 2022 to
celebrate passion, commitment and energy of work taking place across
Charities, Community and Voluntary Organisations and Social Enterprise
Organisations. Sponsored by Smith Williamson and compared by Sarah Travers
we were delighted that our Introduction to Research Methods Course was
nominated for an award.
Whilst we were piped at the post the nomination was in recognition of the quality
of the work and the partnership approach adopted in its development and
delivery.
In the photograph are colleagues from Praxis who nominated the course for an award and some
members of the developmental and delivery team and the evaluator.
*At the Annual Research Conference in March 2022 we were also delighted to profile the course as a
keynote address. See link to conference on pages 1-3.
The full course project team are noted below
This project involved a partnership between researchers with lived experience, the then Health and Social
Care Board, the Mental Health Foundation, Praxis Care, Ulster University and Queen's University Belfast.
It was funded by Disability Research on Independent Living and Learning. The rationale for developing
this course was based on the benefits of co-production in research but also the experience of different
research teams separately developing short, project-specific courses for researchers with lived
experience who were joining their research team. The aim of this project
was therefore to co-produce a course that could be used as a general
introduction for anyone who might be interested in getting involved in
research and that could also be adapted by any new projects that had
participatory research as part of their approach. In order to coproduce
the course, researchers with lived experience and representatives from
the different organisations were involved from the beginning of the
project to: develop the idea; design the content; deliver the course; and
evaluate the process. The key benefits of coproduction included that it
improved the quality and accessibility of the course content. Another
benefit is that, having researchers with lived experience involved in
delivering the course should clearly communicate that people, who may
not have previous experience of research, can engage positively with
research.
We were also delighted to celebrate the success of Paul Webb from
Praxis who was recognised in the Social Innovation Award.
Congratulations also to his colleague Ciara Duffy also from Praxis
recognised in the One to Watch Award.
