Theme 6
Deprivation
of Liberty
Were a person lacks capacity to make a
decision and is under continuous supervision
and control and is not free to leave, they may
be subject to a Deprivation of Liberty (MCA
(NI) 2016).
Some participants reported that they are
unable to leave their home or day activity
independently as a result of concerns of their
safety because of limited road safety
awareness or a physical health concern.
Other participants preferred that someone
accompanied them when they left their home
as it made them feel safe.
