Discussion of Results
Levels of engagement with the individual are minimal.
Observation is a powerful and essential skill to use when gathering
information from the individual.
Co working is currently ad hoc approach and needs to be
standardised.
More time is needed to undertake person centred assessments.
Training needs to be targeted more effectively and delivered to
different levels of staff.
Conclusions and Recommendations
This study highlighted the uniqueness of working with individuals with
complex communication needs. To ensure a person centred approach it is
important that current good practice is further developed and effective use
of tools and resources are shared and cascaded throughout relevant
teams.
